Midsummer Madness Across the Nation in Odd Contests
A lighthearted piece catalogs summer pranks and stunts across the United States. Dennis Cotton in McPherson sought a 52 hour yoyo record but quit at 16 hours. Gusto the turtle won the International Tortoise Championship at Overton Park Zoo Memphis after a two nation race. A bathtub derby by Easter Seals drew entries in Charlotte. A car touching contest in New Bern crowned Laverne Adams of Washington NC with a 1975 car after 8 hours 18 minutes. Ginny Robinson and Serge Genitempo wed in a Los Angeles Zoo flight cage.
