Solo reunion as mariner and freighter near Los Angeles Harbor
Los Angeles Harbor hosts a reunion between Sharon Sites Adams, a Marina del Rey mother of two, and the freighter President McKinley of American President Lines. Adams completed a solo Pacific crossing from Yokohama to San Diego in a 31 foot ketch, becoming the first woman to sail solo this route. The first ship she saw after leaving port was the President McKinley, which also reported her position. The reunion followed two months of radio contact and included a tour of the ship and a view of her log noting the President McKinley in one inch letters.
