Connally attacks GOP roots as Carter foe at convention

Former Texas governor John B. Connally, a Republican for three years, denounced his old party at the GOP National Convention in Kansas City. He labeled Democrats responsible for inflation and an expanding federal bureaucracy while urging delegates to back Republicans in Congress. He dismissed Jimmy Carter as unknown and untested and highlighted his own past as a Democrat to argue for a presidential bid, drawing both support and skepticism from party members and Ford allies.
