Reapportion Southern California Senate Vote Topic

LA Times advocates for Prop 15 to create equal senate representation for the six southern counties to secure water project interests. The piece notes LA County’s 39 percent population with 1 of 40 senators, while southern counties hold 60 percent population and 62 percent valuation but only 15 percent of seats. It highlights the Feather River project costing about 1.75 billion and disputes over water allocation, with sponsor County Supervisor Frank Bonelli and northern opposition. The column frames a regional battle over representation and water, warning of a prolonged political fight ahead of the ballot.

Court halts Halls Restaurant picketing in labor dispute

Judge John F. McCarthy ordered Culinary and Hotel Workers Local 631 to stop concerted picketing of 24 Hour Cafe at 1715 W Anaheim St citing violation of the State Jurisdictional Strike Act. The injunction lasts through the cafe's $5,000 damage suit and follows a June temporary order. The court found the workers formed a union and acted as exclusive bargaining agent without employer control, while placards stating the restaurant is not union were deemed untruthful.
