Meteorite Seas on Moon Supported by Orbiter Study
A study by JPL scientists Sjogren and Muller argues that giant meteorite impacts formed the Moon’s mare basins. Using Lunar Orbiter Five speed data, they infer mascons beneath the seas Imbrium, Crisium, Serenitatis, Nectaris and Humboldt, suggesting a dense core beneath a porous crust.
