Hay Fever May Lead to Asthma, Study Indicates
National Jewish Hospital researchers led by Dr. Irving H. Thin and Dr. Robert G. Townley studied about 100 asthma patients, 14 hay fever sufferers, and others to gauge asthma risk. Townley estimates 10 to 15 million hay fever sufferers in the U S with five million asthma cases. They tested allergic responses using aerosol sprays and breathing measurements to assess bronchial obstruction and asthma susceptibility.
