Jim Garner on Chandler Whodunits and Marlowe Evolution
Hollywood star Jim Garner explains that his Philip Marlowe film will update the Chandler detective for modern audiences. He notes past Marlowes by Bogart Powell and Montgomery and says the old black hat style won’t fit today. Garner emphasizes faster pacing, dynamic camera work, and avoids rereading the books to avoid direct comparisons. He also mentions his love of racing cars, planning more while acknowledging the changing movie landscape.
