In Mission Hills San Diego residents turned garden hoses on a brush fire threatening homes. Priests and neighbors joined to help firemen keep the blaze from their properties, using water to douse flames and prevent spread.
Argentina is failing delivery this week for the first of 20 diesel locomotives bought from France or the Argentine state railway. The other 24 locomotives are to be chartered before year’s end.
John H. Nash 49, longtime superintendent for Bechtel Construction in Huntington Beach and former superintendent at Southern California Edison Los Alamitos plant, died of a heart attack Aug. 5 in Belton Texas while he and his wife Eugene vacationed there. Services were held in Belton. he lived at 102 Huntington Ave Huntington Beach and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and Temple Texas.
Four members of one family and five others were injured in three early Monday traffic crashes. Esther Minsky, 40, was seriously hurt at Obispo and Artesia, with Susan, Francine, Mark, and Billy Minsky among the injured. Beverly Minsky was unhurt. Sandra Spann, Lilian Steele, and Bill Cole were other involved parties with Spann sustaining a broken nose. Spann was cited for intoxication. Masonic Lodge 175 and the Eastern Star Hawthorne mention relatives of the deceased.

Arizona's counsel Mark Wilmer criticized prior pleadings as unsound while the federal special master weighs timing for arguments on the motion amid treaty and water rights questions involving Indians and Mexico. The dispute concerns allocations of more than 4.3 million acre-feet annually and implications for lower and upper basin states, with potential impact on national development and contracts for surplus water.
