Reagan seeks courtroom protection after Soledad incident
Governor Ronald Reagan said he asked California's judiciary and corrections officials to coordinate on courtroom security following last Friday's Marin County gunfight that killed Superior Court Judge Harold Haley and three gunmen. He told reporters he would back any needed measures to prevent a repeat and urged collaboration with Chief Justice Donald R. Wright and presiding judges. Reagan also noted some campuses may qualify to rename themselves universities but opposed blanket authority for all state colleges.

Reagan Declares Not Guilty Over Missing Paintings
Governor Reagan expressed bewilderment at a question about two missing paintings borrowed from the State Historical Museum at Shasta. Flora Jordan of the Native Daughters of the Golden West in Redding said the two works were removed in 1968 at Nancy Reagan’s request, with five borrowed and three returned. Two paintings Yosemite by Frederick Sehater and Portrait of John Sutter by Timaimanuel Leutz remain missing. Jordan offered to return what is found.
