U S Agencies to Build Wind Turbine Power Plant
The administration plans a large wind energy project directed by the National Kernot ics Agency to potentially supply 5 to 10 percent of national needs at peak efficiency. A turbine 150 feet high, costing about 7 million dollars, would use two narrow fiber blades spinning 20 to 40 rpm in winds above 11 mph, with maximum output at 22 mph. At 18 mph average winds, it could power about 800 homes. 17 sites were selected for the windmill project.
