Light Patterns Trigger Seizures in One Family
A New York doctor reports a hereditary sensitivity to flickering light in five of six family members. Bright light and shadows entering a car window, through tree gaps, triggered seizures in a 14-year-old boy and 10-year-old sister, with brain waves showing pattern responses in the father, a 16-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old boy. The mother showed no light sensitivity. The finding, published in the American Journal of Diseases of Children, suggests a hereditary reaction to specific light flicker.
