Test Shows Antibiotic Sensitivity in 30 Minutes
In Knoxville a new rapid sensitivity testing kit guides doctors to the correct antibiotic within about half an hour without lab staff. Developed by Dr James R Brown at East Tennessee Children's Hospital with help from Dr John M Woodward and Dr Raymond Beck, the method aims to save time and curb drug resistance. It should be available nationwide by Christmas and applies to infections treatable with known antibiotics.
