Two Volunteers Hurt Battling Orange County Brush Fire

Two women volunteers Mary Parker and Helen Leach were seriously injured when a brush fire east of Et Toro near El Tara and Canada roads forced them back into a moving fire line. They live in Trabuco Canyon and were taken to Saddleback Community Hospital. The blaze, about 90 minutes long, threatened several homes but caused no damage. Firefighters from the county department and forestry, plus volunteers, used helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to drop fire retardant as they fought the flames.
