Los Angeles County Awards Short Range Transit Plan
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors ordered a short-range transit plan, to be drawn up by October by the road commissioner, CAO, and transportation commission. Chair Ed Edelman noted ongoing studies like the Downtown People Mover and Wilshire Corridor, but said final projects are 2–3 years away, with 5–10 years before service. An interim plan should use freeway systems and alternative rights‑of‑way to provide an economical, efficient and dependable system immediately.

County labor pact vote delayed on county workforce
Los Angeles County Supervisors postponed Tuesday's vote on a two year labor contract package covering a large portion of the county workforce due to the absence of Supervisor James Hayes. The delay leaves the three vote majority short as Hayes Hahn and Edelman are needed for passage while Schabarum and Ward oppose. County Administrator Hufford estimates about 5.8 percent average wage increase under the pact, below the 7.5 percent state cap.
