Tax relief bill gains on Kenrick's key vote
In Sacramento sponsors of a large tax package won two major early votes. The Assembly approved the measure 11 to 10 and sent it to the Senate. The Senate Rules Committee moved the bill SB 9 to the Revenue and Taxation Committee, boosting its chances for a Senate floor vote. Sen. Joseph M. Kenrick cast the pivotal Rules vote. The plan would devote about 575 million for property tax relief and about 319 million for low wealth schools, funded by a mix of tax increases. Critics urge caution, noting reliance on the Watson initiative’s tax caps and warning of potential opposition in the Senate.
