Ford veto will kill oil controls in six month extension
Washington UPI reports the House approved a six month extension of present oil price controls. President Ford plans to veto the bill saying it fails to decontrol gradually. Energy chief Frank Zarb warned gasoline could reach 70 cents a gallon by winter under continued controls. The House vote to extend, 303 to 117, followed a separate vote 228 to 189 on extending the price ceilings. Senate had already passed a similar override capable bill. The measure extends the Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act from August 31 to March 1, 1076, as lawmakers weigh a broader energy plan before a recess.
