Mitchell says he cannot recall bugging antiwar veterans

Former attorney general John N. Mitchell testified in federal court that he had no recollection of electronic surveillance of Vietnam veterans accused of planning disruptions at the GOP convention. He had attended a Committee To Re-Elect President Nixon meeting where surveillance was discussed, but questions to expand his answer were blocked. Mitchell and his New York attorney were reprimanded for missing a prior subpoena. The testimony related to the Gainesville Eight case, seven Vietnam Veterans Against the War members and one ally charged with conspiring to disrupt at Miami Beach last summer.
