Dentists at 75th session warn imitation drinks threaten enamel
Dr Joseph C Muhler of Indiana University told the Southern California Dental Association meeting in Anaheim that imitation fruit drinks and synthetic citrus beverages may erode enamel by delivering acids that remove calcium from teeth. He noted natural fruit pulp may offer protection and cautioned small cavities are at risk. Also discussed were lasers as a new tool in dentistry, potentially smoothing enamel, sealing cavities, and assisting restorations, with UCLA researchers predicting lasers’ rising role alongside conventional treatments.
