Stiffer penalties backed by city council committee
Long Beach City Council's Legislative Committee urged support for seven state bills to toughen penalties for violent crimes and improve crime fighting. It recommended opposing five measures expanding municipal collective bargaining, with action set for today and another hearing May 3. The package includes bills to create a California Tech foundation, raise penalties for harm during robbery or rape, reform search and evidence rules, curb unattended non commercial vehicles, and more.
