The Joint Rules Committee directed State Treasurer Jesse Unruh to relocate from the Capitol’s west wing to Office Building 1 across the street. A planned $1 million appropriation follows a previous $250,000, with total relocation and vault costs estimated at $1.2 million.
The Senate Rules Committee voted 4 to 0 to raise California lawmaker salaries from 21 120 to 23 232 next year, making them the second highest in the nation behind New York. The measure, introduced by the committee, moves to the Finance Committee with little public input. The increase would take effect in December next year and adheres to a 5 percent annual cap.
Sacramento report says the Senate Rules Committee postponed a vote on Raymond Procunier for chairman of the state Adult Authority. The panel approved three Brown appointments to high office James Lorenz Willie Barnes and Michael Kirst all without opposition. Procunier faced nearly an hour of questioning from Sen. Nicholas Petris and others before the delay.
