State of emergency urged as 10 million Americans go hungry
A UPI report says a 25 member Citizens Board of Inquiry urged President Johnson to declare a national emergency and provide free food to 256 counties in 20 states. It accuses government policy of starving the poor while billions are spent to remove food from the market. The board calls for a free food stamp program and expanded emergency feeding in migrant camps and Indian reservations.
