Bill Would Ban Drilling In Santa Barbara Channel

Sacramento UPI A bill banning new oil drilling leases in the Santa Barbara Channel cleared the Assembly Ways and Means Committee. Assemblyman W Don MacGillivray says the measure aims to prevent repeats of the January 1969 offshore spill that coated beaches. The bill advances on a waive vote and would require county requests and state lands commission review before any new leases.
