An artillery shell rigged as a booby trap exploded Wednesday in South Vietnam’s northern quarter. A group of American soldiers near Saigon were among those hit, with 14 GIs killed and 32 wounded. American forces also suffered at least 25 additional casualties.
Intermatic killed and 54 wounded in Wednesday action, the heaviest toll since April 1 as Communist forces pressed a major offensive. In Saigon, Viet Cong rockets hit the capital for the second time in 11 hours, wounding civilians. A federal appeals judge in Boston cleared the way for public release of the transcript in the Mary Jo Kopechne case. The publication could occur today, ending a lengthy eight month legal sequence following the Chappaquiddick accident in which Mary Jo Kopechne, 28, died after an automobile driven by Senator Edward Kennedy, D Mass, plunged from a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island.
