Longshoremen End Container Cargo Boycott on Waterfront
The three week ILWU boycott of containerized cargo ended and dockworkers resumed handling moving van sized containers along the Long Beach LA waterfront. Coast Negotiating Committee issued the settlement after a secret Sunday night caucus. Operations returned to normal at Sea Land of California Port of Long Beach Matson Terminals and Consolidated Marine Terminals in LA. Bridges said the dispute is with the Pacific Maritime Association over container stuffing and unstuffing by Teamsters and talks will resume after the 18th waterfront convention.
