Sky Knight Spots Suspect in Burglary
Deputies searched for a burglary partner after skirting the field with a Sky Knight helicopter. Harold Lee Clifton, 19, of Compton, was spotted by a searchlight while two burglars loaded merchandise from Glen Arts Furniture Co. The partner, described as about one year old, escaped into tall grass. Paramount Man Dies in Crash on Imperial Highway
Downey police report a Paramount man, Joseph M. Klein, 49, died when his car struck giant drainpipe segments laid along Imperial Highway in Downey around 11:48 p.m. The accident occurred in the 9000 block amid roadside construction. John W. McKeen, 80, longtime Long Beach machine shop foreman and volunteer tennis coach, died Friday in Memorial Hospital. A Mason City native and Army veteran, he taught hundreds of local youngsters the basics of tennis at Recreation Park and Lakewood Country Club, fostering many who advanced to prominence. Surviving are his wife Alice and other family. Services Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Mottell's Chapel, burial at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
