Textbook Bill Clears Assembly in Sacramento
SACRAMENTO UPSONY A bus to permit a choice of textbook for elementary students cleared the Assembly after its author urged for the best education possible. Gordon Winton Jr. of Merced led the bill which moves to the Senate for further hearings on a 62 11 vote. The measure would allow the State Board of Education to adopt multiple books per subject including state written texts and others from private publishers. Critics warned it could cost millions and benefit publishers outside the state.
