Churches Against Communism Push for California Ballot
A California campaign by Churches Against Communism seeks to add a state version of the Smith Act to the constitution. The group plans to gather over 460,000 petition signatures by April 26 for the November 3 ballot. The proposed amendment would criminalize aiding or aiding organizations seeking to overthrow government by force or violence, with broad provisions on teaching and conspiracy. Catholic participation is anticipated, though initial leadership is Protestant.

Christian Unity Aims at Grass Roots Worship
The Rev. Daniel J. O’Hanlon S.J. at Alma College California argues Catholics and Protestants must worship together at the grass roots level to advance unity. Proposals include joint meals prayers Bible devotions and public choral events with both choirs singing common hymns. He urges immediate concrete steps for ordinary faithful action rather than waiting for divine timing.
