Indepence arrest leads to dramatic escape on Salem bridge
A Salem officer and constable pursued two Independence women charged with larceny of quilts and bedding from A H Damon. After a wild chase, Mrs Blanchard fled through a home while her mother and daughters attacked the officer. Both suspects were captured near Salem but discharged after preliminary examination due to insufficient evidence. The report ends noting a dramatic store ad for many goods at Douty’s.
