Oregon Highway Debt Threatened by Overloaded Trucks
Oregon has spent more than 28 million dollars on highways under a lax system. Highway Commissioner John B. Yeon warns that funds may be wasted if trucks carry excess loads or exceed 12 miles per hour. Governors appoint three unpaid commissioners who seem unaccountable. Overloading has persisted for years, with highway contracts routinely flouting the law. The public may demand accountability after money is spent, and Governor Olcott is urged to act to curb the truck problem.
