Beet Harvesting Underway In Valley Region

Harvest of the first sugar beet crop in the Valley began Monday and the yield is larger than expected despite late planting. Once harvested, tonnage and net profits per grower will be reported after expenses. Preliminary tests show yields with about fifteen percent sugar, promising good prices for growers.

Sugar content may rise as irrigation improves yields
