Hirschberg secures water rights for Polk County towns

The Evening Telegram reports H. Hirschberg secured a water mains right of way from Luckiemute River sources west of Faille City to Independence. Land between Independence and Fells City through Monmouth was purchased to lay pipes along county roads for irrigation and city water access. A preliminary survey supports early water supply for Polk County cities.

Published first paper takes own life after arrest and chaos

Jong Shee Moore known as Jack Moore a bow hand faced domestic troubles and planned revenge. Police pursued Moore to his wife’s mother home and he killed himself after a failed confrontation injuring no one else. Sheriff Grant narrowly escaped injury when Moore fired a pistol as authorities closed in.

Lecture on government defects by former teacher from Agnes Oregon

A former Independence teacher, Frank VanCenp, spoke at the Main Street corner Saturday evening. He argued against the current government and critiqued churches and parties except the one he represents, claiming many agree with his socialist viewpoint.

Council Repeals Park Line Ordinance and Hears Franchise

The common council repealed an ordinance establishing an 18 foot park line and restored 14 feet. A water franchise for H Mirachy berg was sent to the waste basket, with Oregon Power Co. to proceed with plant improvements. The mayor may veto the cement sidewalk ordinance for Fourth Street affecting McR Linurry, Baisy, and Byers properties.

Bronco Busters Fined for Drunk and Disorderly Conduct

Two men from Eugene drunk and disorderly on Main Street were arrested by Marshal Tapper after attempting to flee a horse incident at Brain's Horse Barn. They pleaded guilty and each paid a $15 fine.
