A wagon toppled from a ferry pen as a horse bolted, throwing Mr Wheeler and young Katie into the river. Dr. Ketebgan saved the child by grabbing her foot while the buggy remained suspended momentarily, then reached shallow water and escaped harm.
The McMinnville Quartette will appear at the Independence opera house Saturday evening November 25 at 7 30. Members R L Smith Raymond Culver Ralph McKee and Paul Black are joined by reader John Mason. Reserved seats go on sale November 20 at Williams' Drug Store.
Salem residents anticipate a December celebration for the bridge across the Wile lametty as in Portland's Mor risa Street event. Neoison and Corbatte return from Tet Baturdiy with Nomen peel. Sam Phaillipy and Jasper Skalfe provide winter wood. Two horses sold publicly on the street for 1.25 and 94.25.

Mr. Baker moves from Oregon City with his family to Independence.
U LeRoi Upson, noted authority on the Panama Canal, speaks on December 4 and 5 with hundreds of color slides. First talk covers the quality construction and its relation to Pacific Coast states. second discusses Panama history its people and its exploration.
The Owls whist club, long known in town, reorganized at the home of Mr and Mrs J B Clioper. The club met with Dr and Mrs C D Butler and will meet biweekly through the winter. Mr and Mrs BE Paddock posted the week’s high score.
Dallas Lumber and Logging Company in Dallas Oregon invites customers to write or call for pricing on lumber and mill work with direct from mill to consumer service.
The Slamey Pomona of the Oregon City Transportation Company completed a first post‑closure trip up the Willamette to Corvallis and back to Albany. The steamer will run three trips weekly Monday Wednesday Friday, aided by river improvements and new dock access. Freight rates favor boat transport over rail, with grain shipping benefiting the line under Capt Blume, Mate Ring, and Captain Williams.
The Home of the Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon in Portland appeals for donations this Thanksgiving. The institution reports rising need with an average of sixty children daily, scarlet fever outbreaks isolated, and new recreation sheds and a manual training room funded by Clackamas County. Donations from railroads and steamboats are requested with markings to the Portland society.
Albany’s leading cloak and suit store Chamber and McCune launches the first big sale of the season running Saturday November 18 to Saturday December 2. The four page bargain circular highlights coats suits skirts sweaters rain coats millinery and shoes with savings aimed at women across Albany and the Willamette Valley.
Skinner Bros. of the city boasts two fine boats on the Willamette from Corvallis to Portland. The Inde pendence has undergone a full overhaul with new upholstery hull repairs and heaters. Running time has been reduced to about 45 minutes to Salem and about 90 minutes back. River depth reached 12 feet above normal Wednesday morning and is rising, with predictions of higher water than in several years.
The W. C. T. U. gathered at Mrs. Seisinger’s home for a profitable meeting. Members discussed aiding the Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Portland with clothing and money, contributing $1.75 so far. Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Seisinger were appointed leaders and a first meeting set for Sunday at 3 PM for mothers to bring children.
The Women of Woodcraft host a pumpkin pie social in Woodman Hall on Friday evening November 24. All Woodmer families and friends are invited to join the event.

R E Ferguson born November twenty four eighteen forty nine in Halderman Northumberland County Canada moved to central Michigan at ten then to northern Michigan in 1880 where he married Bertha DeWitt Later they relocated to Independence Oregon living on a farm eleven years and in the city eighteen years He spent the last two years in real estate He was a longtime member of the I C C F and sang in the M OE Church choir for many years until his voice was distressed by age
After multiple strokes over years, Brother Ferguson died at 4 40 PM at home. He leaves a wife and brothers and was a faithful church member and friend. Funeral 1 30 PM Thursday at the M E Church with burial in I O O F Cemetery officiated by Rev F N Sandifur.
Mrs. Clara Booth widow of Rev Geo Booth sister of Mrs J E Hubbard of this city died at a Portland hospital Wednesday night after a week’s illness with sister at her side. She had lived in Salem since her husband’s death and the funeral will be held there today.
