Opening Game Of Football In Independence
The opening football game last Saturday on the school grounds pitted Independence and Corvallis high schools. Independence won, scoring in the first and second halves, while rain and field conditions limited play. Prof. Kirk praised the team, and a rematch is planned soon. Next week patrons will receive student reports. parents are urged to support teachers and ensure students study outside school hours. Public school pennants in purple and white are available to fund school purposes.

Prominent Pioneer James Fudge Dies at 73 in Wakeburg
James Fudge died Monday in Wakeburg Washington at seventy three. He was a charter member of Latah lodge No 74 Latah Washington and belonged to the Co OF of which he was a member. He emigrated to the Pacific coast in the early 60s settling at Independence Polk County. He homesteaded near Walletburg later moving to Wakeburg where he resided until a few years before his death. He leaves a widow four children Morton Day Harry Driscoll Mrs Wade and K B Fudge a brother William Fudge and sisters Mrs 40 am Joe and Stra David Hodge Independence Oregon.
