Farmer Dies After Runaway Near City

J. B. Compton died Tuesday morning from injuries after a runaway while hauling gravel on the road south of the city. A motorcycle rider spooked the team, causing the wagon to crush his leg and sever an artery. The Odd Fellows Lodge oversaw the funeral Thursday with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. the lodge plans legal action if evidence implicates the motorcyclist from Oregon.

Fire in Livery Barn Threatens City Buildings

Mister Bob Opera House Drama Impresses Independence High

Students of Independence High Behoo staged Mister Bob in the opera house Friday evening before a packed audience. The show featured a notable eight year old reader, Francis Page, visiting from Washington with H Hirschberg, who drew applause and an encore. The performance showcased solid student acting and substantial audience appreciation, with strong financial turnout surprising expectations.

Memorial Services Planned By G A R And Churches

Memorial services will be held in the auditorium Sunday at 11 a.m. by the G A R and WR and all city churches. Rev Arthur Blackstone will preach the sermon and a large chorus will provide music. Memorial Day program follows on Tuesday May 30 at 10 a.m. with oration by Hon P H DeArcey of Salem and songs and recitations. Musical Recital at M. E. Church in Independence

Leading musicians and vocalists will assist in a May 26 recital at the M. E. Church Independence with Mrs J G McIntosh presenting her pupils. Notable performers include Mr Walters a noted violinist, Raymond Williams, the Independence mile quartet, the Ladies Graduation Club and Misses Chase Smith Kerre Calver son. Admission is 10 cents to defray expenses with a program featuring piano vocal and violin pieces performed by local artists.

Kiondike Fraternal Union basket social at K P Hall

The Kiondike Fraternal Union held a basket social in the Knights of Pythias Hall on Wednesday evening. An excellent program featured welcome by M Geeta, solos by Miss Nettle Snyder and Mrs FE Paddock, a piano duet by Frances and Helen Eaton, and a vocal duet by McIntosh and Walker. A novel loneries auction used nut shells with numbers. buyers paid one cent per pound for their partner's weight, not exceeding two pounds.
