Siletz Indian Land Inspected and Sale Details
Local men Bh. McElmurry and C. B. Forbes spent a week at the Siletz Indian reservation inspecting allotment lands offered for sale. A funeral for a celebrated Indian relative of Governor Lane's wife occurred during their visit. They traveled from Toledo to Siletz, noting much farm land and heavy timber in the basin. The government fixed a minimum price for allotments and will not consider bids below it. White residents live on the preservation, but the area is not seen as ideal for living. The Indian service has funded schools and care, with schools at Siletz and several stores nearby.
