The Bureau of Internal Revenue will launch a two month campaign nationwide to collect delinquent sales and luxury taxes. Revenue officers will target dealers failing to record or misreport taxes on soft drinks ice cream vanity items and medicines aiming to recover millions with penalties for willful violators.
Astoria hosts the second annual Oregon American Legion convention July 30 to August 1 with a parade free dance salmon barbecue and a grand ball. Delegates travel by special train from Portland July 29 and address by Governor Olcott is expected. Sunday features a Seaside visit and a fireworks display recreating the Battle of the Arfonne.
Pendleton Post reports a Roundup city post will send a large delegation and a round-up stage coach to the Oregon American Legion convention in Astoria. The dates are July 30 to August 1 with a parade on Saturday afternoon. Prizes will reward best float and largest in-line post membership.
