Mire Sarah Elizabeth Fisher aged 99 born January 22 1846 in Putnam County Missouri died at home in Monmouth Oregon after paralysis. Survived by three sisters and two brothers and many nieces nephews including Minole Beckley Oakland A J Haley Portland Geo E Monmouth Abraham Day Mt Angel Leusa Mitchell Spokane Chas Franklin Portland Ralph B Hubbard Cove Hublord Oregon. Services held at home by Rev Wigmore Saturday at 10. Interment Salt Creek Cemetery six miles below Dallas. Fisher active in Christian church with many friends. Judge Meladden Corvallis visited the area Friday and Saturday.
The Polk County superintendent will hold regular examinations for state and county papers in Dallas starting Wednesday February 11 at 9 oclock AM and ending Friday February 13 at 4 PM. Subjects include penmanship history spelling algebra reading school law written arithmetic theory of teaching grammar bookkeeping physics civil government and more. Primary certificates require additional tests in penmanship orthography reading arithmetic and teaching methods.

Flood conditions on the Willamette caused the river to surge to twenty five feet above low water as Oregon City locks closed. The steamer Eugene anchored behind Frazer Race’s hardware while revetment work paused. Reported losses include 43 sheep for D L Hedges and livestock left by Buffum across the river. Water receded soon to boating level.
Lenore Peterson, aged 14 months, died at her parents home in Parker on Thursday January 22 1903 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday conducted by Rev Whirry of McMinnville.

The O B N S girls beat Rickreall 11 to 9 in a closely fought opener, followed by a Normal boys 17 to 15 over Newberg. Monmouth-O.B.N.S. head toward a likely intercollegiate championship as they prepare to face McMinnville.
