Polk County farmers near Rickreall report heavy sheep losses from unknown dogs. They see dogs at work but cannot identify them. Owners fear nightly shedding would be too burdensome, and muzzling has not been tried. drastic action is deemed necessary to stop the killings.
At its annual meeting for Polk county Dallas, B G Campbell was named president, Jacob Van Well vice president, and E K Piaseki secretary treasurer. Directors include H G Campbell and Stephen G Waite. Loan rules shift to current rates for delayed closings amid war-financing concerns.
District Attorney reports total alcohol permits by category for Polk county in 1917. Druggists handled 201.4 gallons, physicians 6.5 gallons, hospitals 25 gallons, and seven drug stores plus two hospitals issued sacramental wine. Total volumes reflect solemn uses and regulatory records.
