School Board to Acquire Grounds for Annex at Independence
The Independence School Board met Monday to accept the resignation of B F Jones and plan an annex to the school building to relieve crowding in first and second grades. A special meeting is set for Friday January 21 to elect a director to fill Jones's unexpired term. The district enrollment is 462 school age children, with 13,000 debt and a five mill levy proposed to cover current expenses and debt payments. The board notes property value has risen to 906,280 and highlights need to condemn adjacent streets to acquire more grounds for the annex. Tuition this year totals 160, the largest ever for the district.
