Independence elects Hoffman mayor and councilmen
In a tight single-ticket city election in Independence, W T Hoffman was elected mayor amid a low turnout of ninety-one voters. K G Eldridge M C Williams A C Moore and other candidates won seats on the new council, with the council and mayor expected to push sewerage and paved surfaces. A civic meeting of the W C I U is set for Friday.

Death of Louis F Blanchard in Independence Iowa
Louis Franklin Blanchard died Sunday evening at 7 o clock in Independence. He was born May 10 1841 in New York and was over 68. He lived in Independence for 30 years and left five children Charles F Harry Nellie May Nelson and Amanda Nelson four of whom survive. The funeral was Tuesday at 11 o clock from the family home conducted by Rev Maynard R Thompson and he was buried in the I O O F cemetery.

Women of Woodcraft Hold Secret Initiation Across Counties
Delegations from Dallas Monmouth Independence and McMinnville gathered in a city forest for Woodcraft initiation events. Twelve candidates blindfolded led through trees as forty eight Dallas sisters travelled to Independence to witness. Mrs Carrie Van Orsdall honored the meeting with the Western Division banner. The ceremonies ended around 11 pm with participants boarding a special train to return home.

Evangelical preacher leads revival and plans future meetings
The evanneilatic perviews of the Christian church closed last Sunday night and the evangelist Black left for home Wednesday morning. The Medtiiee wore as a cureass and the whole church revived with 25 pew members joining in fellowship. Black urged Independence and its people to pursue righteous living and stronger churches, announcing a meeting at North Santiam before returning to administer a reorganization in Independence and schedule another meeting in March by a congregational vote.
