Mrs Lena Sass age 82, a patient at University of Maryland hospital, had 1290 pieces removed from her stomach in an operation. The items included 1059 ordinary steel pins along with hairpins buckles safety pins an iron hook and a small paper clamp. The patient has been deemed insane for some time and is expected to recover.

When yellow jackets build nests near homes, destroy them in two or three days by placing a poison ball near the nest. Dissolve four grains of tartar emetic in a tablespoonful of hot water and add two-thirds cup of strained honey. Put a teaspoonful near the nest entrance and replenish as used. The Oregon Agricultural College entries led the international egg laying contest at Storrs Connecticut. They repeated their June success in July winning the blue ribbon first prize with 249 eggs. They led all pens for the week ending August 14 with 58 eggs and now top the world collection with 1819 total eggs.
Farmers and stockmen of Crook and Deschutes counties ordered 126000 pounds of sulfur for alfalfa. The purchase, about four carloads, was arranged by county agent R A Ward from Oregon Agricultural College tests. Trials show one dollar worth of sulfur can add a full ton of yield, with moisture affecting immediate results but later residual benefits when moisture improves.
The October first deadline requires advance payment for subscriptions and prohibits free copies or exchanges between papers.
