Valuable 1847 gold piece found in police court case
In San Francisco a gold coin from 1847 with the words In God We Trust omitted was turned in to police court for a $10 fine. One of sixteen such coins is in Independence held by A A Bentley, who bought it after discovering its high collectible value. Bentley declined an offer of $300 from coin collectors and keeps the piece as a pocket token.
