Elephant bones unearthed near Monroe in 1918 dig
Oregon Agricultural College researchers under Horner and Sykes report elephant teeth and bones found in a seven to eight foot deep clay bed near Monroe. The find, in a 15 square foot excavation by 100 students and locals, suggests an animal over 250000 years old. Further study is needed to confirm the skeleton's form.
