The Revenue Act of 1919 imposes taxes on many goods sold after February 25 1919 including autos tires cameras jewelry and ceramics. American-Born Red Cross Nurse Returns From London War Work
Mrs Mildred Campbell, decorated by the Daughters of the Empire and Queen Mary, is home in Portland after three years with British Red Cross hospitals and Queen Marys Guild. The American-born nurse served in England while Major Campbell from Vancouver, B C, had four years with a Scottish regiment in France. She describes London during Zeppelin raids and Dunkerque dangers, praises Red Cross work, and notes her presentation to the Queen in May 1917. The couple plans to remain in Portland while Major Campbell awaits his next assignment.

Toes grafted on for fingers in war medical study
The Medical Supplement from the medical research committee and War Office details cases where surgeons replaced lost digits with toes. A thumb was rebuilt from the big toe and in another instance the second toe. Remarkably four fingers were rebuilt from four toes with careful attachment and plaster immobilization, yielding a usable hand and good walking ability afterward.
