A rancher living miles south of Independence suffered serious injuries Monday when his 12 foot dig in a heavy disc tractor overturned trapping his legs. He freed himself with effort after nearby Lickech alerted help. He was taken to Independence hospital with extensive leg injuries.

Mrs Will Hollingshead Dies In La Pine Oregon
Mrs. Will Hollingshead died at her La Pine Oregon home on April 4 after an illness. She was a daughter of Mrs. Margaret Osborne of Cooper Hollow and is survived by her husband and three sons Chenter Cecil and Dean. The family has lived in La Pine for many years.

Independence city council votes bonds for fire department needs
The Independence city council adopted an ordinance authorizing bond funds to equip the fire department. An ordinance requires a cement sidewalk in front of property on Fourth Street. Resolution 154 aims to pave the alley between First and Second streets from B to Monmouth. A portion of Main Street in E A Thorp's Independence town is set for vacation from Street No 2 to A Street in the Hill addition. The council notes the street location change after paving and deems the old route unnecessary. A special session is scheduled for this evening.

Mrs. Margaret Osborne, living with her son Charles Osborne in Cooper Hollow, marked her 94th birthday Monday. Though her eyesight fades, she retains full faculties and home care ability. Mother of 14 children with six surviving, she spent most of her life in Polk County and is regarded as the oldest resident.
