Pioneer Kieland Narrowly Survives Ice Break near Georgetown
John Kieland and Ben Anderson, early explorers of the Kuskokwim region, arrived with Billy Young recounting a nine hour dog team run from Julian to the Kuskokwim. Near Georgetown the party broke ice on George river, Kieland fell into icy water to his neck but saved himself with a armful of ice and scraped to safety before Watch could reach him. He reports active prospecting in the Julian area with Willow Spruca and Caribou showing good prospects.
