Petrograd reports a three day battle ends with a revolution. Casualties total about 500. Emperor Nicholas warned his dynasty and fate hinge on acquiescence. Royal palace besieged. the emperor at the front. Reports also state Nicholas abdicated and a provisional government formed.
Washington report from ambassador Gerard states Germany endures hunger and privations with grim steadiness and remains confident submarines will win. He says Germany can hold out another year despite shortages and signs of imminent breakdown including food scarcity, infant mortality, and threatened war debt confiscation.
A March 16 dispatch states French troops breached the Monastir trenches on the Macedonian front as an important battle looms. Reports from Petrograd and London note a Russian push east and British gains near Bagdad imperiling a large Turkish army, with Baghdad likely fallen per The Chronicle. Submarine losses and air warfare add to a turbulent, multi-front war outlook.
Juneau report states Hubbard of the Third division was chosen president of the territorial senate over Sutherland of the Fourth division. Hubbard announced committees with he as chairman on each, and the house adjourned after a brief session. Two bills were introduced, one for an eight hour day for women and one defining duties of commissioners under Section 366. The house passed sympathy resolutions for Representative McCormack after his son’s death.
Washington reports ten million men killed wounded captured or missing in the European war from official belligerent tabulations. Military dead number 4,421,200, with the rest comprising wounded, prisoners and missing across the forces.
Seattle dispatch reports that in a winter collision between the steamship Hum boldt and the Mexican steamship Providencia both vessels were fined for fog speed violations. Each navigating officer received a $50 penalty and each vessel was fined $2200 for exceeding the speed limit.
In London on March 10 Mrs Alice Wheeldon, her daughter Mrs Winifred Mason, and Mason's husband Alfred George Mason were found guilty of conspiracy to murder Premier Lloyd George and Arthur Henderson.
March 10 report that the Admiral Farragut will be the first passenger vessel sailing directly for Anchorage this spring with the sailing date set for April 1.
Seattle reports Purchasing Agent Dole of the Alaska engineering commission placed a $467,000 order with United States Steel Products Company for 10,000 tons of 70-pound steel rails bars belts and spikes for spring 1918 delivery. It duplicates a prior order for this spring’s delivery.
Washington March 14 President Wilson announced the completed tariff commission naming Frank W Taussig of Harvard William Kent of California cattleman and former congressman David D Lewis of Maryland Daniel C Roper of South Carolina now first assistant postmaster general E P Costigan of Colorado and W S Culbertson of Kansas.
If conditions allow today the Pioneers plan a festive St Patrick's Day dog team race. Three teams are entered: Stenberg Wood and Costar driving light dogs, buskies and bird dogs respectively. Training has been rigorous and more entries may come with heavy dogs if trails are harsh. Strong betting favors Stenberg, but a spirited contest is expected to finish at the line.
Deputy Marshal Percy Charles visited Fiat early this week and ordered the frail sisterhood to vacate the town’s central restricted district. Complaints of disgraceful street scenes prompted the action, with a new restricted zone likely set below the town. Fritz Wolters and Arthur Malette were seen in town for St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The trial of Mayor Hi Gill and others for conspiracy opened with dramatic testimony about a $4,000 cash bribe paid on August 30. James Reid was arrested on a warrant for violating a 1915 law prohibiting obtaining food or lodging from hotels by false representation. He faces trial before Commissioner Vinal at Ophir. the complaining witness is a roadhouse keeper known as Big Aggie. John H. Scott and family, with Mrs. Ellinor, arrived from Dikeman aboard the Gene Norton's sled-bost Nortonia.
March 12 1917 report from Washington says German submarines expected off Atlantic and Gulf coasts within six days. Navy plans arming merchant vessels. President to convene extra session April 16. Foreign governments asked about permitting armed ships.

Washington March 15. Franz Karl Zintelman German consul general in the Philippines travels back and forth on the Pacific unable to land. San Francisco Honolulu and Yokohama are closed to him and he is now dead for China which has just broken off relations with Germany.
Condition of President Wilson shows improvement but remains bedbound. He was able to sit up yesterday after a period of illness, signaling gradual recovery and continued medical care under observation.
The Pioneers dance tonight will feature a public wedding between Gene Norton and Mrs Ellinor, two famed Alaska trailblazers. Commissioner Geraghty to perform the ceremony at 10 o'clock in the presence of hundreds of friends, with Costar and Jacobs providing music and lunch by Harry Nanagaki’s team.
