A fire at a cabin near the Slippern saw mill yesterday afternoon consumed the home of C. L. Clemons, leaving him with a total loss of about 2000 films and three cameras. The young photographer's collection captured the camp’s growth and its loss is felt by the community.
Deputy Marshal Donovan will travel tomorrow toward the Kuskokwim country to inform Chas Greer and Tom Greer that they are wanted in Seattle. The subpoenas arise from United States vs Mundy related to alleged coal land frauds tied to Cunningham claims.
Seward debates sending a man with a horse and double-ender to test the Seward-Iditarod route with fundraising still in doubt. Dennis Dougan, longtime North resident, dies in Fairbanks from hemorrhage of the lungs after months of illness. Senator Charles Hill arrives, bound for Fairbanks with mail and supplies. Bob Leferge of White and Leferge poolroom in Dikeman noted, Sickinger to provide complete outfits.

Snow delivers mail and several pounds of other matter to the Iditarod area. Ten dog teams carry goods showing a busy district with hopes of $5,000,000 next summer. The post office will be notified to reduce shipments. J. H. Richards, a hardware merchant, is noted for shortening the trail to Seward by 25 miles and sharing the route with Anton Eide.
A large outfit with a full hoisting plant moves toward the Texas association on Happy Creek as Wisemen Whalen and Chambers prepare to open on a big scale. Ground at Happy Creek shows pay along its entire length while Parham Berry and associates drill above Washington, near Caribou Bill Deetering’s area. Further below on the Bell association Tom Armstrong and Tom McLean note water troubles but stay optimistic. Dikeman’s Captain Jack Green returns from town, and Frank B. Stanley of Fla town is confined after a grip germ incident.
The Northern Commercial company faces District Attorney Crossley and Attorney General Wickersham over the right to sell whiskey under a retail license. Tom McGowan leads the case in Gibbon with C A Munro as defendant. The dispute centers on licensing rules and the sale of liquor to Indians and the scope of saloon operations.
News from Seward and nearby districts reports five stamp mills planned and two Bucyrus dredges for placers on the Kenaier. A Fairbanks wedding ties Isabelle Sullivan to Deputy Marshal A H Hansen. Pay found on Sh Creek tributary Nolan, plus a new quartz strike near Beaver Dam. Miner Logue dies from gas in Jennie Creek shaft. Bock predicts $100000 earnings this season. Editors mock bureaucrats, hint at a future inspector, and urge a living wage for post office staff. The piece disparages delays despite appeals from 17 Seattle organizations.
Telegraphic reports say Doc Mading left Seattle on March 8 and is en route to Seward. One of the first to travel the Seward trail he hopes to return in 12 days with good spring, though latest arrivals report journeys up to 70 days. He invested in quartz propositions at Seward before departure and will likely stop briefly to gauge progress.
A recast of last month’s high winds shows storms did heavy damage. In Flat, wind twisted buildings out of plumb and blew a tent with walls and floor a hundred yards. Lon Doggett’s, two-story structures, and A. B. hall also shifted. Windows shattered and the N. C. Co. tent warehouse damaged.
Mrs M M Roberson of 526 Waverly street Palo Alto Cal writes to the local postmaster seeking word about her son A W Roberson who has not been heard from since last summer. He is believed to be in the Iditarod and the family is anxious. Mr and Mrs James Chronister traveled from Otter by dog team yesterday. Marcus Daly known as A J Daly will return on an early spring boat and handle outside business before leaving for the Iditarod via Dawson. He is a Democratic national committeeman for Alaska and recently invited Champ Clark to visit Alaska to review the proposition. Daly can be reached at the M. and M. bank's Lindberg office in the Leary building Seattle.
The report sketches movement in the Kus Kokwim region with Bert Green returning from the Tokotna post of the Kus Kokwim Commercial Co. and various transfer rumors. Joe Morrow sells stake to Dave Edwards. Dave Johnson plans arrival from Nixon's Fork. Frank Joaquin moves from Georgetown toward Tokoma. Smiling Albert Lind uncovers pay on Willow Creek.
Maj. Strong of the Iditarod Nugget is named Deputy Grand Arctic Chief and Z. Lous sac becomes Grand Arctic Chief for the Iditarod. Strong can charter camps and plans Camp No. 27 in Iditarod as soon as paraphernalia arrive. Judd Carlson reports Ophir remain prosperous with little excitement and intends to stay in the Iditarod area.
A B Hop social event at Ansley’s hall last Saturday celebrated the Iditarod A B club’s first ladies entertainment. Despite a date clash with Flat A B events, the gathering pleased attendees with a fine musical program and good dancing. Fox City correspondent Gus Skoftland seeks news of his brother Knute last heard in fall 1908 heading toward Susitna country to prospect with another party. Mrs Teresa Roscoe of Palace of Sweets returns from Flat and rumors she may open a branch store in Creek City. Nuggets can be turned into souvenirs at Simpson’s Pioneer Jeweler.

Sea Right to Botton Gibbon reports that Joseph Van Kow ski, a Pole grub-staked by Doce Madden, was declared insane today by a local jury. He claims to have found pay on a creek he named Challenge, asserts reincarnation and visions, and says he can see into the ground.
G. A Tiffany delivered seven hind caribou meat loads from the Ruskokwama country to Flat City last Thursday. The event marks the creek metropolis as the first untamed meat consignment in the area with exhibitions of tall and fancy eating planned at Patrick's roadhouse through spring.
Report from Gibbon dated February 17 notes little activity on the Pi fork of Hosiana with Ramparters abandoning ground after a long winter. Mud fock near Fairbanks with Hd Bresnahan and Alex Nicol yields no word as the season ends.
Commissioner Maltby received official notice of an April 11 election to decide on Iditarod incorporation and to elect a city council and a three member school trustees board. The ballot lists seven blanks and candidates for election judges are suggested.
