Portland, Jan 4 James Whalen owner of the Eagle saloon was arrested on charges of complicity in the Humboldt gold dust robbery. He confessed when confronted but refused to name local confederates. He had been selling gold filings recently leading to the arrest. Held on $15000 bail.
In Reese Utah two masked men boarded the Overland Limited at night and fired through a Pullman car killing one porter and mortally wounding another. They escaped as posses close in.

The husband sought divorce and child custody amid accusations of infidelity. the jury granted the divorce to the husband but awarded custody of the children to the wife. The judge voiced dissatisfaction with the verdict.
The founder of the Bremerton Navy Yard died today in Bremerton from heart disease. Bremer, noted for establishing the key shipyard, passed away in his home city.
