Washington dispatch says the Alaska railroad bill reported by the territories committee will be taken up in the house on Thursday January 15. Supporters concede a tough path though it is an administration measure and expected to pass.
Charles H. Moyer president of the Western Federation of Miners returns to Houghton and is greeted by striking miners. He is guarded by deputies and summoned to a grand jury over the Calumet deportation. Governor Ferris arrives to study the Calumet copper strike and the Christmas tree tragedy.
William Phipps Blake, famed American mineralogist and explorer, died in New Haven at 88. A key figure in expeditions since 1863, he worked as a mining engineer for Japan in 1862 and reported on the Stickine river exploration to Secretary Seward in 1863. He served in US commissions for international expositions and was Arizona state geologist in later years, authoring major geological works.
Mother Jones, famed supporters of coal miners, landed in Trinidad from Denver and was deported by military authorities on arrival. Denver officials of the Western Federation of Miners say she will immediately return to Trinidad and challenge the military actions.

The Marvel Creek Mining & Development Company plans spring operations in the Aniak region under Alaska incorporation laws. It has acquired interests from Moser Acheson Labelle McDonald and Scy and will install the hydraulic plant, aiming to start cash-flowing mining without debt. Capital stock is 100000, with 65000 paid in and 20000 stock to be sold at par to fund payments. Promoters include Frank Kern Claude Baker Manuel Quintara Damne Petersan Sam Revlas Sam.
